My Treatment Philosophy

I believe that therapeutic change occurs through a supportive, caring and trusting relationship building upon a client’s unique strengths and resources. I consider clients to be the experts in their lives, and with support, encouragement, and appropriate interventions, they will find solutions to a wide range of human difficulties.

I practice Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is an educational approach to therapy that helps clients overcome their difficulties by changing their thinking, behaviour and emotional responses. It has proven to be clinically effective for a wide variety of problems and disorders.
  • Solution Focused Therapy is style of brief intervention that helps clients focus on solutions to their problems and directs individuals towards living more helpful and satisfying lives.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches.

Assessment and Treatment Services

My practice focuses on treating adults experiencing anxiety, post-traumatic stress, depression, marital problems/relationship issues, self-esteem issues, work related issues, and grief and loss. I also offer lifestyle counselling for stress, insomnia and weight management.

My primary responsibility as your therapist is to protect your welfare and to work in your best interests. Everything that we discuss during therapy is confidential except in specific circumstances in which I am ethically and/or legally required to disclose information to the appropriate authorities.

Goal of Therapy

Counselling provides an opportunity for you to discuss your concerns in a confidential and safe environment. By talking through your concerns with a counsellor, you will deepen your understanding of what is happening and develop alternate ways of dealing with the situation. Our goal in therapy is to uncover your unique and innate abilities to successfully manage your emotions, relationships and problems.

Length of Therapy

As with any therapy, no specific promises can be made about the results of treatment, the effectiveness of the procedures or the number of sessions necessary for therapy to be effective. The number of sessions will vary depending upon each individual’s needs. For some people, a few sessions are sufficient, while others may choose to come more often. The length of therapy depends on what you are looking for from therapy and the types of challenges you bring to it. Each client retains complete control of the therapy process and has the right to discontinue treatment at any time however, it is important to discuss your progress with me before ending therapy.
